Feel electrified or buzzy?

Tue, 02/08/2005 - 12:53
I often feel in my upper arms and front of thighs like I'm plugged into a wall socket. At times it's so bad I feel like a sz waiting to happen. Other times it's a near relief to have a sz because it blows off that horrible feeling that I'm full of electricity. Sometimes it's so bad I feeling a "buzzing" and if I don't sz by then it progresses to what I'd call a near "thrumming" feeling just like when I've been jolted by electricity.I had thought this must be common among epileptics. I've asked several, they don't notice this. A few have. Besides the obvious, it is very uncomfortable walking around feeling like I could power a small city. When I sz it is natural for people to comfort me by rubbing my upper arms or patting my legs! YEOW! I feel like I'm getting mega watt shocked directly after a sz particularly and that patting or rubbing will send me right back into another sz. I can feel the current shooting up my neck, down into my hip if I'm even touched on my upper arms or if it's my thigh it can run into my foot and make my foot hurt and into my chest, for the few seconds before I sz again. These are such accessible areas of the body too. I think that's the second part of the problem. People who do sz rescue on me a lot are careful to avoid my anterior thighs and upper arms, if they can. But I'm often around others who don't know and while I'm trying to recover it is very common to have some nice person, often a good samaritan in a store, RUBBING my arm to sooth me, which keeps me or throws me back into a sz! I've even considered tatoos - Please do not touch or rub me my arm or thighs. This is an example of how hard this makes my life. We were at The Office Party, which was a disaster for me, but heard all else had fun. Without running through the whole story my husband forgot, patted and rubbed my thigh briefly, probably feeling tension himself knowing I was struggling with all the strobe effects in the restaurant, and I dropped right towards my plate. THAT is how touchy I am. That's common. I was nervous about the party. Had met exactly ONE person who would be there. That seems to increase this feeling of being full of electricity and I've had this since the beginning.I'm curious now who all IF anyone else feels this since I'm finding this isn't an expected symptom. Does anyone else feel electrified? Or experience anything I've described above?

wow, totally!!

well, i've expereienced this, but i don't think to that extent.  i have always felt 'electricity' though prior to a seizure and kinda smelled it - like static electricity or something.  it's weird, i've always had that...i guess my parents/neuros have chalked it up to a personal thing, like how some ppl smell burnt toast.  and YES sometimes it feels good to have a seizure for that release...i feel the same!!!  not sure about the buzzing or if someone touches me...but that is because i haven't had a seizure in a couple of years.

so weird to see someone else talking of this.  all along i thought it was just me

My head will often "tingle" in the back/left side.  Sometimes it can just be a soft tingling, other times, very extreme until it has developed into a loud buzz in my head.  My neuro has tried to tell me that I am just experiencing muscle spasms-- nothing seizure related.

Gives you a lot of faith in your doctor huh?

OMG Gretchen I thought that was just me!I have been trying to find a way to discribe it. I feel this electrical charge that runs from my toe up my leg and my arms have the same kind of charges and people rub my arms or leg to calm me and make me freak.I know the body is all connected thru the CNS thru the pressure points and people should touch you in certain places. Someone once grabbed my hand and pressed a pressure point- I wasn't pleased. My sister does massage therapy, and I had the awful rash on my ankles, she pushed the spot on my foot and now the rash is all over my body.-OOPs off the point again. SorryI tried to explain an Aura once as "Being like an Electrical Wire knocked down during a storm arcing all over the street" and that is what the little light bursts look like just before I go unconscious and what I feel in the back of my head when I discribe the popping I feel just before I drop.January 15th We went to a Birthday Party for My Husbands Cousin. I had just gotten 1 bite of my dinner when I startted not feeling too well. I wasn't paying attention and was looking out at all the pretty City Lights( Big Mistake), in my view was also the Ceiling fans turning slowly, and flashes of light hit my eyes (photographer), along with a brief view of a disco ball, before I grabbed my husbands arm. He being the loving husband abandoned his dinner and found a quiet(?) corner of the bar.I appropriately enough lost consciousness and stayed that way for 20+ minutes plus 15 min post ictal unable to speack or walk, our best friends also abandoned their dinners and helped me walk across the bar. OK so I probably looked like the drunk lady- when I reached the end of the bar- oops another darn Disco Ball and more Ceiling Fans. Down I went again- this time an RN was there and she was monitoring me- she had the Bartender call 911. My hubby said my eyes were going all over the place...up, down, cross, different directions at diferent times.Third seizure hit at ER. Three days later admitted to UCLA with yet another T/C and yet they only do a portable EEG and it came back normal. You know sometimes I feel like I have all this electrical stuff running around in me that I am afraid to touch things. Like it is going to shock me...or set me off into a seizure again. Then again sometimes it is easier to just give in to the seizure than to fight them off.Dayna
