Epilepsy Surgery (Veterans)

Sat, 04/25/2020 - 13:48
Have any vets had epilepsy surgery and seen an increase in VA compensation as a result? Last year I saw a significant change in my epilepsy, which led to two surgeries. The first was for intracranial monitoring to better learn where the seizures originated. The second was to resect those portions. They took out the anterior half of my right temporal lobe, lateral portion of my right posterior temporal lobe, and most of the right hippocampus and amygdala. I did get an increase for the change in my condition, but nothing changed when I included evidence regarding my resection. This also caused a loss of about a quarter of my vision which is still being investigated. Just curios if anyone has fought that battle already.

Hi. I’m a disabled veteran

Hi. I’m a disabled veteran and while I haven’t been down the road that you’re referring to...it’s been my experience that the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization typically knows the compensation rates and what it takes to get the compensation rates increased best. You may want to ask them for a National Service Officer to help you with your question on that because they have access to the regulations.
