Cost of Epilepsy Management??

Tue, 06/12/2007 - 00:33
My fiancée was diagnosed with Epilepsy when she was young. Exactly the type, I'm not sure. Fortunitely though, she was already covered under her parent's insurance so it did not fall under a pre-existing condition clause. She is currently 21 and is a full-time student, so she will be covered until either married, is no longer in school, or she reaches the age of 25 -- which ever comes first. She is currently 3 years without a known seizure, which is thanks to the medications she is taking. (There are several, including 100mg/day Tegretol.) As such, we have decided to wait until such time that she is no longer covered under her parent's insurance before we go ahead and tie the knot. Which brings me to the main point. No insurance company will take her -- at least, not for Epilepsy-related visits and medications. As a ball park figure (worst case scenario): what are we looking at on an annual basis without insurance? Thank you very much

Hello, when I was diagnosed I didn't have insurance I was off my parents and worked part time going to school full time. All Insurnace companies I tried were outrageous because of a pre-existing condition, some said they would except me, but I would have to pay for 6 months before they starting supporting me. For future reference, I Finnally found out if I started working full time at a my job, insurance through my job had to except my pre-existing condition emediatly. There are website that have prices for drugs, I just typed: tegretol price, Tegretol is a cheaper drug. Look up all the drugs, amount she takes and how often she may be going to the Dr both epilepsy and non E for worse case scenario. Looks like she's got a good one looking after her already, take care. Angie
