second seizure appearance.

My mom had a seizure about a year ago. She just had another one. She was on Keppra and then her doctor told her to no longer take it. She had the seizure when she was not taking the medicine. She does have high blood pressure. She does have diabetes. She went to the hospital, they checked her EEG, and everything was normal. They did a scan for her head, nothing was seen. This is very upsetting to me because why is it happening? Her neurologist thinks it is because of her low blood sugar. They took a blood test at the hospital and her blood sugar was low. Please tell me, this could be the reason right? It is not epilepsy is it? She is getting older, she does so much work, and she does have a lot of stress in her life. We are thinking stress and low blood sugar could have been the reason. She is waiting to get a doctors appointment to see what they are going to say. I just hope it is nothing serious. Comments?

One can't eliminate epilepsy

One can't eliminate epilepsy easily from your mom's situation. She would have to get her sugars under control, deal with her other known conditions and then it might take a while to know. EEGs are not a test that results in a definitive yes or no. It's a test that might see seizure related activity for most people with epilepsy if a patient is hooked up at a time the activity occurs. Stress is a common seizure trigger for people with epilepsy but it's a common issue for a lot of conditions and your mom has a lot going on that already sound serious.

so are you ruling out

so are you ruling out epilepsy then? or are you saying, only time will tell whether or not it is related?

It's not possible to rule out

It's not possible to rule out epilepsy in an online forum. I don't think it would be ethical for a doctor to post advice here. You are getting feedback of people who have lived a variety of diagnosis and treatment experiences. It is possible to point out that your mom's situation is complex and it might take the docs a long time to figure that out. The specialists may only have a really good picture after she's got a handle on all her other conditions. Epilepsy has no definitive test, a lot is done by ruling other things out. It also isn't a static condition, things can change. For some people untreated epilepsy will get worse so it will become clearer in such situations. Know that everyone has the possibility of seizures. The people with epilepsy can range from hundreds of seizures a day to one every few years. You can see how a diagnosis for the person with a seizure every few years might be harder and take longer, yes?
