Money Saving Programs offered by your Utility Companies

Tue, 10/25/2005 - 17:30
Do you read the inserts in your utility bills? If you are like most people I know....probably not. I was talking to a friend and thought I would post about these programs. There is one in particular, that is not offered up front, but all electric companies in california do offer it. You may want to check with your local company. It is called Medical Baseline in some states. How this works...If you have a "qualifying medical condition" that requires medical equipment that runs off of electricity, then you are alloted an extra amount of energy at the lowest rate. If you have an Autoimmune defiiciency disorder, or MS you may qualify for help with heating/cooling expenses. Say you use an Electric Wheelchair, a Hospital Bed, a nebulizer, an oxigen tank with a backup, those all require energy to run them right? Well that can run your electric bill up really fast. What this program does is..it checks how many pieces of equipment and how much energy it uses, how many hours it is in use. So if it is used everyday 24/7 you get more of an alotment than someone with 1 piece of equipment that uses theirs 3 days a week. In states that have the multi-tier system of billing...such as California , this program saves the customers quite a bit. It does require you to fill out an application, and your doctor fills out the qualifying information. Depending on the disorder and the severity you may qualify for assistance. Let me know if you have any questions I can help you with. Dayna
