Epileptologists- been there?

Sat, 07/09/2005 - 15:36

Has anyone been to UCSF at the Dept of Neurology? Have you seen Dr. Rober Layzer or Dr. Kenneth Laxer?

If so, what'd you think? Were they helpful? Friendly demeanor? Did they perform additional tests, or was it the same as seeing a regular neuro?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. My neuro is sending me there for a second opinion.

Heather,

I spent time at UCSF in May.  I'll preface by saying that UCSF is a marvelous medical school.  Anyone working there has to be top notch.  I did not work with either dr you mentioned, maybe because we have Kaiser insurance.

I spent 5 days at UCSF for the VEEG.  It was very hard, but I knew I had to go through with it to see if surgery was a possibility.  I have done the WADA test at Redwood City-Kaiser.  I am scheduled for surgery on July 19th.

I have worked with a fabulous epileptologist who is in San Fran.  I think the world of him.  He is my hero because he has helped me get to this point.  I am married and have 4 kids and live in the central valley.

I do think you will like UCSF.  I would love to go to med school there if given the opportunity.  They do take great care of you and are very professional.

I would enjoy staying in touch, and hearing about your success'.

Sincerely,

Diane McFarlin

Hi ladies.

I am in California too.  Only I am in So  Cal... High Desert Area, Only a few hours (3?) from fresno &  you  Heather.  I have all of my treatments  taken  care of at UCLA.   Which is a couple hours from me...the other way.

Diane I wish  you  the best  of  luck  with  your  surgery.

Original Poster Heather (?)  God my memory sucks.  I wish  you luck with the Epi's...I find  the Docs  at the   Teaching hospitals  to be wonderful.   And I have only had 1 that I  called annoying. One out of 10 not bad odds.   He had a terrrible bedside  manner...although  he was much nicer after  I  complained to my  neuro.  So don't be afraid to speak up.
