simple therapy for seizures during sleep

Wed, 05/26/2010 - 22:16

I'm a 30 year old male, diagnosed with seizures over 23 years ago. When I was younger they would be absent spells while awake, and gradually moved to grand-mal during sleep. My mother mentioned that she noticed I would have siezures after having chocolate as a child.

1 month ago I visited a non-conventional therapist who told me something surprizingly simple: he said that seizures were related to my blood sugar level. As a solution, he told me to have a half cup of raisins through the day, 40 minutes of mild exercise that would cause sweating, and 1 spoon of honey before sleeping at night.

I haven't had any episodes since :-) I don't have seizures frequently, but thought I'd ask others if this would help them.

Though I'm young, I bought a blood sugar monitor and check my level at times I feel might be suspicious. I also keep the monitor close to me at night, and requested that anyone around that sees me having a seizure take a blood sample at that time, but it hasen't happened yet.

I would encorage others to try this, especially if you have episodes early after sleeping (our blood sugar level drops alot when we sleep - this could be one reason for my seizures).

It's not anything strange, and doesn't have any side effects. Thats why I'm thinking its worth a try. Let me know what your experiences are!
