Nightshade free diet?

Mon, 11/29/2010 - 18:08
Has anyone heard of or tried this for seizure control?  I came across a post about it on a facebook epilepsy group and the poster swears by it.  However, there is not much info about it on the internet.

A.H.  we are now 3.5 months into the nightshade-free diet and still seizure free!!! If anyone else is willing to try it - PLEASE let me know, I will help in any way I can!

it's simply eliminating foods of the nightshade family. This includes tomatoes, potatoes, all peppers - sweet and hot, paprika, eggplant, goji or wolf berries, tomatillos, ground cherries, jicamas, and there are more that I'm not familiar ...with.
The hard part is that these foods are in almost everything as far as processed foods go. Watch for ingredients such as modified food starch, spice extractives, natural flavor. They usually contain a nightshade food.
I've read about this on fb too, it's a post from a mother who stopped her sons myoclonic seizures in a week after eliminating these foods.
Hope this helps.
I would like to try it too for my daughter...

Here's a link to a WIKI article on NightShades. I avoid them like the plague. A lot of people have problems with them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanaceae There's a ton of stuff out there on Google. Be careful. Not all of it is accurate. Good luck. This family is quite allergenic and allergies can cause seizures. Who knows why this works for some people. If it works for you...keep on doing it. Baruch Hashem. Hoshia na.
