Muscle knots after a tonic clonic (grand mal)

Wed, 12/09/2009 - 16:39

Hi,

Does any body get muscle knots after a major seizure? I have found getting a sports massage concentrating on my neck & back helps. It hurts, but it's a good hurt. They develop underneath my shoulder blades. Is this epilepsy related or just a fluke? If it is E related, I wish insurance would cover it.

Insurance would never cover it.  They would say it isn't necessary.  I can surely relate, though.  I have gone to the chiropractor many, many times because I have moderate/severe whiplash from my seizures.  Whiplash from a seizure is different from that in a car because the headrest in a car prevents excessive motion.  When we are having a seizure, nothing stops us.  Instead of just the first few vertebrae, my whiplash goes all the way down to between my shoulder blades, which is where you have your muscle knots.  I am sure that I have a collection of knots myself.

I hope this was helpful at all.  At least to let you know you are not alone.  Good luck!

I have gotten muscle knots after  a tonic clonic.  My whole body  was hurting for about a week!!  It is annoying when people don't take the pain seriously though.

Absolutely! My whole body hurts like h*ll for about five days after a seizure. As I get older, the dopiness period after seizure is getting shorter, but the muscle sore part is getting longer.

I'm a big fan of the OTC pain killer Aleve.  It started out it's life as a prescription muscle relaxant.
