Low Glycemic Index Treatment for Absence Seizures

Tue, 07/22/2008 - 09:18

I am very interested in trying the Low Glycemic Index Treatment to control my daughter's absence seizures.  Unfortunately, her neurologist seems resistant to anything "new" and options are limited in our city.  I understand that treatment centers across the country are now using this therapy.  If you have experience with this treatment or know of centers in our part of the country (WV, VA, KY, OH, NC, PA) I would appreciate any insight you might offer.

My son has been on the LGI diet for two years. It has worked very well for him. He no longer has seizures but still takes a little bit of seizure control meds. We are now reducing the meds so he can be free of them! The diet is SO easy! My son was on the ketogenic diet for 2 and a half years and that diet is much more difficult. Dr. Elizabeth Thiele at the Mass General Hospital in Boston is a world expert on diet therapy. Im sure you can call them and they can give you information on where to go for the diet in your area. Good Luck.
