MEDIA ADVISORY

WHAT

The Epilepsy Foundation Metro DC is hosting its nationwide Walk to END EPILEPSY® D.C. originally planned on the National Mall as a Virtual Walk to raise funds in support of the 74,000 people in Metro DC living with epilepsy. The virtual Walk provides a platform for people with epilepsy and their families to “walk” and share their stories to create awareness and raise funds to END EPILEPSY. Instead of walking in person, everyone will be walking virtually in their own neighborhood, on their treadmill, or wherever they choose. Participants will have the freedom and choice to join in whatever capacity they are able to do so. The Virtual Walk is made possible by the following sponsors: Greenwich Biosciences (Nationwide Presenting Sponsor), Eisai Co., Ltd (Nationwide Signature Sponsor), and UCB (Washington, DC Signature Sponsor).

WHY

Even in times like these, seizures don’t stop, and neither has the fight to END EPILEPSY. Over a lifetime, one in 10 people will have a seizure, and one in 26 will be diagnosed with epilepsy. In the U.S., there are more than twice as many people who live with epilepsy than with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and cystic fibrosis, combined. Yet, epilepsy receives one-tenth the research funding than any one of those disorders.
