The Epilepsy Foundation of Iowa is a statewide Chapter of the National Epilepsy Foundation serving all 99 counties in the state. The Foundation hired their first staff in the state in July 2007, which has grown to two full time program & services staff and one part time administrative staff. Offices are located in Des Moines and Iowa City. EF Iowa has an Advisory Board, which consists of volunteers who support the Epilepsy Foundation’s mission, purpose, goals, policies and programs. We hold our Iowa Walks for Epilepsy in the spring and our Iowa Seizure Smart Conference featuring epilepsy experts in the fall. We also provide seizure education programs to a variety of groups including school staff, school nurses, students, day care center staff, senior caregivers, law enforcement, first responders, direct support staff and community/civic organizations. Epilepsy Empowerment Groups are held at various locations across the state and we also provide epilepsy youth camp scholarships. We provide information and assistance to guide people to resources to help overcome challenges that often come along the journey of having seizures, so they can live a better life with their epilepsy.
