Access to health coverage and health care is vital for the wellbeing of people with the epilepsies. People living with the epilepsies utilize a variety of different health insurance coverage options to receive care and access to treatment. While anti-seizure medications (also known as anticonvulsants) are the most common and cost-effective treatment for controlling and/or reducing seizures, there is no “one size fits all” treatment option for epilepsy. Yet, approximately 30-40% of individuals living with epilepsy live with uncontrolled or intractable seizures, despite available treatments.
The Foundation is deeply committed to advocating for affordable, comprehensive, accessible, physician-directed and person-centered coverage and care and access to the full range of available treatments, including safe and legal access to medical cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD).
