National Institutes of Health is Recruiting for the All of Us Research Program
Epilepsy News From: Friday, April 05, 2019
The National Institutes of Health is looking to gather data from a million or more participants in the All of Us Research Program to accelerate research and improve health. The mission of All of Us is to advance precision medicine, or health care that is based on you as an individual.
Anyone over the age of 18 who is living in the United States can join.
The Epilepsy Foundation is a "Champion" Program Partner and supports the program's efforts to:
- Leverage the rich diversity of America to ensure that historically underrepresented populations are included in research.
- Enhance research and science to identify new treatments for health issues. The program and its participants have the opportunity to change health and health care for generations to come
Why should you join All of Us?
Many communities, including the disability community, were left out of research in the past, so we don’t know as much about how certain diseases or treatments affect people differently. All of Us wants participants to reflect the rich diversity of the United States. It’s important that groups underrepresented in biomedical research have an opportunity to contribute to and benefit from health studies. The more researchers learn about our individual differences, the more tailored our health care can become. Learn more about the benefits to participation.
What will you be asked to do?
Participants will provide health information that researchers can use to better understand how differences in people’s environments, lifestyle, and biological makeup affect health. That health information can include:
- Answers to health surveys
- Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Physical measurements (Blood pressure, height, weight, etc.)
- Biosamples (blood and urine)
Participants will have access to their study results, along with summarized data from across the program. What you learn about your own health data may help you.
How do you join?
The success of All of Us and its potential impact on the future of health depend on participants sharing their information. We encourage you to learn more and consider joining as a way to learn more about your health, represent the epilepsy community, and create a healthier future for generations to come.
Are you an interested researcher?
There are also opportunities for the traditional and non-tradiational researchers to partner with All of Us. Find out more.
