Chat About Seizures, Hormones, and Menses

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. PT

Host: Patty Osborne Shafer RN, MN

Guest Expert: Katherine Noe MD, PhD

Dr. Noe is an associate professor of neurology and director of the EEG laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Her clinical practice involves medical and surgical care of adults with epilepsy.  Dr. Noe has specific research interests in women’s issues in epilepsy and in improving quality and safety in the care of persons with epilepsy.

The connection between seizures, hormones, and menses is a common concern for girls and women with epilepsy. Up to half of females with seizures report changes in seizures around their menses. Sometimes, certain hormones may be influencing seizures. Catamenial epilepsy is a gender-specific type of epilepsy in which seizure frequency intensifies during certain phases of the menstrual cycle.

Can anything be done? Who should you talk to? How can keeping a seizure diary help?

Come join us October 25th to learn what is happening and what may be done to help you. Share your experiences too!
