Let's END EPILEPSY. Let's END Racism.

Epilepsy News From: Thursday, June 04, 2020

To Our Epilepsy Community:

We are deeply saddened and angry about the racial injustice that continues to exist in our country. Our hearts go out to everyone harmed by injustice, discrimination and hatred.

The Epilepsy Foundation condemns racism, discrimination and social injustice. We support everyone who advocates for justice. We stand with all communities of color in the fight against inequities and health disparities. We pledge to work to improve health equity. This commitment reflects our core values, our mission and the principles that guide the work that we do at the Epilepsy Foundation for all who are affected by the epilepsies and seizures.

We will lead the conversations that need to be had about how healthcare and institutionalized racism influence epilepsy care. We will also continue our commitment to creating awareness about epilepsy in minority communities so that we can increase understanding across cultures.

As the Epilepsy Foundation strives toward achieving health equity, we invite everyone to learn how to recognize a seizure and administer Seizure First Aid. By raising awareness of epilepsy health disparities, especially those related to communities of color, we hope to reduce stigma and discrimination and do our part to promote optimal health for all.

Together, we can build a better, safer, and more positive society for everyone -- including those in our epilepsy community -- by breaking down the barriers that divide us.

Together, we can make a difference and create change. Let’s END EPILEPSY®. Let’s END racism.
