The Unmet Need
More than 20 years ago, 30% of people living with epilepsy could not find seizure control with existing therapies. Today, over a dozen new drugs are available. These drugs have reduced side effects, but the number of people living with uncontrolled epilepsy remains the same.
Our Solution: Supporting Innovation
We have three innovation programs: Epilepsy Innovation Institute (Ei2), Epilepsy Therapy Project, and Targeted Research Programs.
Epilepsy Innovation Institute (Ei2)
Our Epilepsy Innovation Institute (Ei2) fosters new approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Ei2 explores bold new ideas and combines novel expertise and technologies from other fields of science.
Epilepsy Therapy Project
Our Epilepsy Therapy Project works to bring therapies to people faster. We offer commercialization grants to projects that are in later stages of development.
Targeted Research Programs
Our Targeted Research Programs promote research for topics the community cares about.
Based on your feedback, we are currently supporting research programs for:
- Preventing sudden unexplained death in epilepsy (SUDEP) in collaboration with the SUDEP Institute.
- Understanding medical marijuana through TRICE: Targeted Research Initiative for Research Regarding Cannabinoids and Epilepsy.
