Zahava Turner on the Classical Ketogenic Diet and Modified Atkins Diet
Epilepsy News From: Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Dietitian Zahava Turner RD, CSP, LDN, of Johns Hopkins University talks about the ratios, calculations, and dietary restriction involved with the ketogenic diet and modified Atkins diet. She also discusses the advantages of each diet and her experiences with parents implementing each diet.
Some of the parents that have gone from the modified Atkins to classical ketogenic diet have reported the classical to be a little bit easier, even though that sounds funny. It's just because I tell exactly what to eat on the classical ketogenic diet. And for the modified Atkins diet, they're just told to count carbs. They feel sometimes they aren't counting carbohydrates correctly or they aren't giving enough fat.
