Shane Conroy

In August of 2011, at the age of 10, Shane was diagnosed with a seizure disorder. With the support of his family, Shane worked through the adversities of his first seizures and medications, often feeling isolated and scared. In search of support in 2013, Shane sponsored his first team at the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington D.C. and was inspired. Despite the many drawbacks epilepsy brings, it has shaped Shane into the person he is today. It taught him to never give up, stay focused and do the best you can. In school, Shane is an honor student and on his high school varsity swim team. He received the Varsity Letter Award as a sophomore and junior. He also qualified for the Connecticut Class LL State Meet in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was awarded the Connecticut Swimming USA Scholar Athlete award. Swimming has taught him to work hard in the moment, so he can achieve his goals in the future. As an Athlete vs Epilepsy Youth Ambassador, Shane is looking to spread awareness to people living with epilepsy to embrace who they are and not to feel alone. Shane believes that “Having epilepsy doesn’t mean you can't be who you want to be.”
