Goodbye as Editor-in-Chief
Epilepsy News From: Tuesday, December 18, 2018
Listen to a message from Dr. Joseph Sirven, editor-in-chief, epilepsy.com
For the past several years, 10 to be exact, I have had the honor and pleasure of sitting in the chair that allows me to see what is happening in the world of seizure and epilepsy. During this incredible time, I have met so many people and I know the content and material we have provided to all of you has touched so many lives.
It is with a tinge of sadness that I write to you my last communication as editor-in-chief of epilepsy.com. I have had the true honor of getting to know so many of you and understanding the epilepsy journey beyond that of being an epilepsy specialist neurologist. Rather I have gotten to see it from the perspective of family, friends, caregivers, and so many other people’s lives that have been touched by this condition.
So often I hear the refrain, “I didn’t pick epilepsy; epilepsy picked me.” And although I do not have the condition itself, I do feel in some way that epilepsy has selected me too as I have heard everyone’s stories.
My whole goal as editor-in-chief was simply to bring honest truth, clarity, knowledge, and information so that anyone/everyone could be helped by whatever we put out. I hope as I let go of this position that I have been able to accomplish some of those goals.
I do know that I feel enriched, blessed, and reminded of the goodness of human nature by the way you all have embraced me as a member of your community. Although I am not going far, I am simply going to be covering health and neurology issues from a different vantage point as my next project. I know that this website is in terrific hands with a team of individuals who were behind the scenes often and made me look so good in helping you all get the information you needed. To them, to you all, thank you for the honor of serving in one of the greatest and best positions I could have ever hoped or imagined with my neurological career.
A blessed holiday season and a very blessed new year hoping that a cure or treatment is only around the corner. Know that you always will have a friend waiting to help in whatever way I can. Thank you for the opportunity.
