State-of-the-art Community Resource and Education Portal Has Helped More Than 5M Since Re-launch
This week the Epilepsy Foundation proudly celebrates the one-year anniversary of its launch of the new epilepsy.com. The website has reintroduced the organization as the most comprehensive national resource for people living with epilepsy and seizures, their caregivers, and anyone who seeks to better understand a medical condition that affects nearly 3 million people in the United States.
Since the successful re-launch in March 2014, the new epilepsy.com has received 5.3 million unique users and delivered 14.4 million page views. It has also seen a 50% increase in sessions, 45% increase in users, and 51% increase in page views.
“The Epilepsy Foundation is an unwavering ally in raising awareness, providing support, and accelerating new therapies and treatments in a timeframe that matters,” said Philip M. Gattone, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation. “I’m proud of the tremendous growth and exceptional reach the new epilepsy.com has had over the past year to help us succeed in key tenants of our mission: Accelerating new therapies, preventing deaths caused by epilepsy, providing education, raising awareness, and building stronger communities for people living with epilepsy, their caregivers, and friends and family members.”
The dynamic, state-of-the-art site was designed to be a comprehensive resource. The site is accessible anytime, anywhere, via computers, tablets, and mobile phones, and is now the No. 1 resource for epilepsy and seizure information on the Web.
“Epilepsy.com began as a program of the Epilepsy Therapy Project. Since the merger with the Epilepsy Foundation, the site has been restructured with new content and new technology. As a result, we are in an even stronger position to give people with epilepsy and their caregivers the tools they need to learn more about seizures, connect with people who understand what they are experiencing, and explore impactful, supportive resources,” said Warren Lammert, founder of epilepsy.com and chair of the Epilepsy Foundation. “The site is a safe place for people with epilepsy to learn more and share their stories without being judged.”
In addition, the site is fully integrated with social media, allowing users to advocate for epilepsy awareness and participate in discussions, ask questions, and comment on content.
“The goal of the epilepsy.com re-launch was to provide easily accessible epilepsy-related information and support materials for everyone impacted by the condition,” said Joseph Sirven, M.D., editor-in-chief of the site and professor of neurology and chairman of the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. “Users now have the latest information, updated facts, treatment options, and research about seizures and epilepsy at their fingertips.”
The Foundation expects to see continued growth on epilepsy.com and anticipates a 15 to 20% increase in traffic by the end of 2015.
