Celebrating School Nurses on National School Nurse Day
Epilepsy News From: Monday, May 07, 2018
National School Nurse Day is May 9, 2018
May 9, 2018, has been designated National School Nurse Day by the National Association of School Nurses. The Epilepsy Foundation is proud to join other organizations across the United States in honoring and recognizing the individuals charged with caring for the health of the students in their schools.
School nurses address a variety of medical issues, including caring for students living with epilepsy. They assist other school personnel who are with students every day but may or may not be well versed in seizure first aid.
How the Epilepsy Foundation Supports School Nurses
The Epilepsy Foundation is committed to providing school nurses with the training necessary to care for a student living with epilepsy. The Foundation has trained approximately 51,000 school nurses in the United States and Puerto Rico using the Managing Students with Seizures: The Importance of School Nurses program to ensure school nurses are equipped with the proper knowledge to care for a student living with seizures.
It is crucial that school nurses feel empowered and know what to do if a student has a seizure in school. After the Epilepsy Foundation New Jersey trained a group of school nurses, a middle school nurse told them school staff now have much-needed, critical information to help them assess whether a seizure is an emergency and to know what to do.
Thank You to All School Nurses

Please join the Epilepsy Foundation in saying, “Thank you and we appreciate all you do,” to every school nurse who has dedicated their lives to ensuring the health of students in their schools. We invite you to share your story about a school nurse who has or is caring for a student living with epilepsy. Tell us how they have made a difference on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #SND2018.
