Epilepsy experts from around the U.S. created this first of its kind program – a free online continuing education series called "Safety in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit." Sponsored by the American Epilepsy Society (AES) and the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), the program is intended to educate healthcare providers on the best ways to create a culture of safety in the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU). Meant for all members of the epilepsy team, including physicians, nurses, EEG technologists, pharmacists, social workers, and any other staff in the unit, this program presents best practices as identified by a group of national experts in epilepsy. The audience for this program should extend beyond the inpatient EMU. Health care professionals who refer people to an EMU and those who care for them after discharge play an integral role in transition care to improve patient safety.
