Epilepsy Foundation's Liz Dueweke Wins IBE International Golden Light Award

Epilepsy News From: Thursday, April 11, 2019

We have exciting news! Our own Liz Dueweke, manager of communications, has been selected as the International Bureau for Epilepsy’s (IBE’s) Golden Light Award winner for the USA. This IBE award recognizes the contributions of young people who are a “shining light” for others. Nominees are all between 18 and 40 years of age and either live with epilepsy or care for someone who does.

Liz's Story

As an IBE chapter, the Epilepsy Foundation nominated Liz because she embodies the strength, compassion, vision, commitment, and perseverance that will bring epilepsy out of the shadows. Among her many accomplishments, she speaks publicly about living with epilepsy, volunteered and fundraised at the National Walk for Epilepsy (now known as the Walk to END EPILEPSY®) for several years before joining our staff, holds a master’s degree in public health and the prestigious credential: Certified Health Education Specialist, and is a vital member of our Communications and Digital Strategy Team.

As part of the nomination process, Liz submitted an article that tells her epilepsy story. I encourage you to read Liz's story. Liz and the seven winners from other countries will be recognized during the Opening Ceremony at the 33rd International Epilepsy Congress, which will be held June 22-26 in Bangkok.

Join us in congratulating and thanking Liz for all she does for the Foundation and – most importantly – the people we serve together.
