Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

Hi DZ,

My healthy 13 year old daughter had a first seizure on 24th april 2010 early morning, she had her period in Jan 2010, she had 3 periods..that's it! after had her first seizure she didn't have periods after that, then our life become nightmare, later next week she had 9 tonic-clonic seizure in one day!! then onwards she had absence, simple partial and complex partial seizurs upto 20 a day, atleast 5-9 tonic-clonic. Specialist reviewed her, they EEG and MRI Scanning, they come up with "limbic encephalitis", they put her on Keppra, even aftner 4-5 months Keppra didn't made any difference, she continue to having seizures.

in September they put her on high dosage of Streoid, instead reducing her siezure made her condition worst. In Nov they infused Immunoglbulin (IVIg), because of auto immuno count is less in her body, that made little difference, her cgmplex partial seizure reduced their frequency but tonic-clonic remain same, again in december they gave her second dossage of IVIg, this is really made some difference, but not miracle happed, frequency seizure now reduced. It looks like nothing is working on her, still she use to have seizure every 15 days for 3 days! then break again cycle started!!

Can you let me know what kind of seizure your daughter  use to have? what are the frequency? how she is doing now? I am going to talk with my doctor about Lamictol. I hope you daughter doing well and i pray to god to give good health and life all life.

Thank you for reading this

We finally got the results from her EEG today. I have to say it was almost a relief in a bad way. Her seizures are the same (Complex Partial Stemming from the ocipital lobe). We started back on lamictal today and I pray it works for her AGAIN!!!!!!!! Although she is having a terrible time with her vision. She has never been on zarontin, so I am unfamiliar with it. There are many medications out there, I hope you keep trying until you find the one that works. We have gone through many until lamictal started working for her. Good Luck!!! we are still not sure of any of this
