Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

my daughter has congenital brain abnormality.  I was told she'd have seizures as an infant.  She never did.  Then puberty.  She has seizures around ovulation and period.  We've had ER trips as a result of falls etc.  She's on Keppra and Trileptal.  I give her Diamox around her ov and period, but it causes weight loss and she needs her pounds.  Trick is giving the meds at the right time.

Her next cycle we are going to start the birth control pill to regulate or I guess supress ovulation.  It has been suggested by several docs in the past. Hopefully that will help with her.

If my parents did what you did, I would be hugging them double time.  I still love them!  They prayed.  They did to what they felt what was right in their eyes.  Once I went to college I went to a doctor to find out why I had these funny periods where I passed out and had a fever!  My parents never took me to a Doctor,  put it was a religious belief, in one way I was fine , but I have had 3 surgeries and tried all the medications.  You all are wonderful parents it is a challenge for everyone.  Treat yourself and your loved one nicely.  My family did!  I worked in the Neurology field for 15 years after I moved out.  I was fortunate. I married a doctor.  I have 2 wonderful healthy teenagers! I wish you all good comfort!

Sounds very much like my daughters situation. How are you now? are you seizure free hopefully? Do your seizures tend to happen when on your menstrual cycle? My daughters do. Good Luck and take care, Karen
