Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

Sounds very much like my daughters situation. How are you now? are you seizure free hopefully? Do your seizures tend to happen when on your menstrual cycle? My daughters do. Good Luck and take care, Karen

Hi..My 14 year old daughter was just diagnosed with JME...... the seizures hit her out of no where ...... our dr said that girls will have different reactions depending on their hormones...... she is now on Lamictal and Keppra and we are hoping these will get her to a seizuzre free state..... I am so new to all of this, but I hope this tid bit was remotely helpful..... Be well

We have been on Lamictal before and it did wonders for our daughter. That is the last medication she was on before they weened her off and she was seizure free for all of these years. I thank you for your concern. I have to admit I have had a hard time trying to deal with this after not having to for so long. Also the anxiety of having to wait to get into a neurologist to find out where we go from here is overwhelming. I guess the fact that we do not have any answers yet is always hard. I hope your daughter does well. The only advise I have to give is do not give up and if you do not agree with something keep fighting until you do get the right treatment. We had a problem with this for several years but finally we got to the right place with the right doctor and it worked out well until now. Your daughter may be very emotional This is very normal with epilepsy. There is a light at the end of the tunnel but I pray that the medications work out well for your daughter. Please keep me posted on her well being. I am very interested to find out how she does.
