Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

Dena - If you weren't talking I would think that was my situation. My daughter had two grand mal seizures at the age of 5. She was on meds (Tegretol) for two years and was seizure free. She started to have absence seizures about a year ago (right when she started to play her DS daily) and was on meds and was fine. She turned 12 in February and recently got her period in December. Easter morning we were going to a sunrise service and bam. Grand Mal seizure. I was numb. I thought this was over. I am so upset and beside my self. WE are going to the Dr. tomorrow, which is not soon enough. I heard about puberty seizures over the past two days and that is going to be one of my questions. Good Luck!

I appreciate your take on this. I am as devistated as you are. We are still waiting to here back from a neurologist (They obviously never get in a hurry). I have had the same emotions and it can be overwhelming at times. I think we tend to be this way because you think it is Finally over, but I guess it is time to realize it never is. It is hard to accept after being seizure free for so long and doing so well. I only can hope that things turn out well for your daughter and mine as well. Please let me know what your doctor suggests. I think this will be interesting to find out.
