Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

Brings back memories . . . my first grand mal was Christmas morning, six months after my first period. I have finally been diagnosed with JME, which generally manifests itself after puberty hits. At first the seizures were easy to control, then things got worse. At present, I have been seizure free for 5 years on a combo of Depakote, Keppra, and a low carb diet (not as stringent as Johns Hopkins, though I started out that way). It's scary, but a diagnosis of JME is not a bad one, it can usually be controlled. I finished college and the Lord has blessed me with four healthy children.

I am not clear on JME could you please explain. We live in a smaller town with no specialists to explain all of the details to us. Never in my wildest dreams did I eve think this would happen AGAIN!!! I have not been able to establish a pattern. According to all of the info I have received it is common a week before during and after. Do you know if this is true? for my daughter is seems seizures are very hard on her right before, however she still has them at all times of the month just not as hard. Please advise I am curious on your take of this
