Kristi,

If all goes as planned stevie will be getting the VNS.  Weve tried so many things so i figure why not?  Im just curious as to which type of seizures you have?  Thanks again to all who replied with your great advice!

lamictal, like any other AED, is a potent med. at the wrong dose, problems usually occur. my fancy new neuro's approach was to push the dose on my lamictal up up up. i went from taking 450/day to 600/day in a couple of weeks. side effects included dizzyness, shaking and also more szs. lots of people (and docs) like lamictal because, at reasonable levels, it seems to be relatively unobstrusive. good luck with getting the dose right and hope it controls the szs.

I understand that Lamictal/Lamotrigine is one of those drugs whose dosage needs to be built up incrementally, otherwise side-effects appear, or become, more apparent.  Two weeks seems a short time to increase your intake by a third: two months would have been more suitable.  I took 5 months to reach a dosage of 300 mg/d (I am now on 200mg/d - for no other reason I do not seem to need the 400mg/d that I eventually rose to).
