I'd just like to say a bit Thank You to all who replied to my lamictal question.  We saw the neuro the other day and I may live to regret this, but we're going to try the VNS, or at least we have an appt in July for an eval.  I have my feelings of dread about it, but Stevie really wants to see if it will help, after all shes 15, has NO life and is willing to try just about anything.  So I guess we'll just have to wait to see what happens with that.  I am going to ask about the dosage of keppra though...does seem to be alot.  Anyway thanks again for all youre input!

RE: lamictal causing more seizures (& VNS)

Kellie - Hi there. I haven't been posting on here for very long, however, I do know a little bit about Lamictal and the VNS. Reason being is because I am on the Lamictal and have the VNS. I've had the VNS for right at a year and have been on Lamictal for awhile. Currently my dr is lowering my dose of Lamictal to merely 50 MG per day. I have been doing this for almost 2 months now and have only had 2-3 minor seizures. Once I started taking the Lamictal my seizures started to plateau and we were then able to start lowering the dose to eventually get me completely off of this and all meds, just to rremain on the VNS alone. My seizures with the Lamictal were nothing compared to what they used to be. I would seriously let your daughter consider getting the VNS. It has helped my life and the life of my family members tremendously! It enables me to go out and to be myself and not worry about being out in public and havign a seizure. Which is something that I used to worry over constantly. And now, the thought hardly ever crosses my mind. I do believe that VNS works very well for some people, however, after hearing some people on here talk about it the procedure may not be for everyone. But, I must say that it is definetely worth looking into and maybe even giving it a try! Anything like this is worth trying if it will give your daughter the freedom to not be so afraid to go out into public & for her to actually be able to have a life of her own finally! I say this because I can honestly relate to how she feels with having seizures at such a young age. I started having them the day after my 15th b-day. And then actually went on to homestudies leaving high school just because I was so embarrassed of my seizures. Luckily for teenagers like your daughter there is so much out there nowadays that can help out and possibly keep her from having seizures at all or at least not as many. Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope that the eval for the VNS goes well and that you do seriously consider letting her have that done. As I said it has helped out me & my family tremendously! Again good luck & God bless you all. Kristi
