HI Everyone, My name is Kathryn I am new to this website. I am 22 years old and I had my first gran mal seizure when I was 6 weeks old. I am going to do an observation within the next two months to see where my seizures are coming from. The reason why I am doing this is because when I have an EEG at the hospital and I've done the weekened EEGS nothing shows up on my EEGS and I've had seziures while I am doing the EEGS but the machine doesn't pick them up.

Hi and welcome. Sometimes the best plan is to document what is happening over a period of time, along with anything anybody has seen happening. Store it in a safe place then talk things over with your doctor or neuro. It helps, as does also understanding Kathryn4 that just because the EEG is is not picking up seizure activity that means you are not experiencing them. An EEG is just one of a whole range of tests that can be done to establish just what is happening. Hang in there, stay positive and upbeat (it helps.) Cat. What To Think About An electroencephalogram (EEG) is not a foolproof test of whether epilepsy is present. Some people with abnormal EEG results do not have epilepsy, and some people who have epilepsy will have normal EEG results, despite repeated tests. If the doctor suspects that a person has epilepsy but the EEG is normal, the technologist running the EEG test may have the person look at a flashing light (photic stimulation), breathe fast and deeply (hyperventilation), or sleep during the test. These techniques sometimes bring out epileptic EEG patterns that did not show up at first. If epilepsy is suspected after an initial EEG, the health professional may repeat the EEG more than once http://www.webmd.com/hw/epilepsy/aa22249.asp "Many false prophets are gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1

hi kathryn, my name is barbara, have you done the visual eeg? where you are monitored for 5 days? i just went through that with no results.. they could detect wherethe activity was but didnt actually see the seizure activity.. i have had eegs off and on over the years.they were abnormal readings in the beginning but then became normal readings in my 20's. now they are back to abnormal readings.. i dont give much faith in the eeg test itself .i think an mri is a better picture. can i ask, do you keep a record of your activity? i found it to be very helpful. keep track of your menstrual cycle and the dates to see if hormones are causing more or less of them..that tooo can help in choosing meds. do you feel the auras or any sensations?is it possible the seizure is so weak it doesnt get picked up? good luck barb
