HI Everyone, My name is Kathryn I am new to this website. I am 22 years old and I had my first gran mal seizure when I was 6 weeks old. I am going to do an observation within the next two months to see where my seizures are coming from. The reason why I am doing this is because when I have an EEG at the hospital and I've done the weekened EEGS nothing shows up on my EEGS and I've had seziures while I am doing the EEGS but the machine doesn't pick them up.

Hello Kathryn - have you ever gone to the hospital for a week for an EEG test?

Hi Kathryn

welcome and may I tell you my experience?

I have had 4 grand mals monthly for years besides other seizures even on meds

my parents took me to hospitals for eeg studies, always negative frustrating us

Since then after years of being on anticonvulsants I finally went to a big teaching university

And I did notice a big differance in the eeg tech who did my exam at this big university hospital

She seemed more in tune with what she was doing then all of the other techs

And on this exam is where they found my epilepsy

I also was off my meds a few days prior to the eeg and just had a seizure 20 mins before the test

I contribute this to going to a place where they do lots of these eeg exams and see it everyday

I went to a teaching hospital this is my experience

 Wish you best

Hi everyone,

My name is Henry. I'm 61 years old. I had my first seizure in Oct. 2006. It was a doozy. I was hospitalized for 10 days in I.C.U. were the doctors suspected that I suffered a stroke. I was finally diagnosed in June 2007 after a 48 hour E.E.G. I seem to suffer these seizures upwards to 12-15 a month. Sometimes I have 3-4 seizures daily. Last month May, 08, I was hospitalized and monitered 24/7 for a total of 4 days. I was subjected to audio and visual monitering. My results were that I do suffer from seizures, but thank GOD, non-epileptic seizures. My "Seizure Specialist" is saying that my seizures are being brought on by stress. Has anyone ever heard of this? My neurologist suspected this back in 2007.

It is hard enough to be retired at an early age of 56. But now with the sizures, I'm unable to drive. I've had a few experiences where I black out and lose anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds of my life I can't remember. My other symptoms are that I am greatly affected by lights (camera flashes, car headlights, road shadows). On occassion, I find my self in a trance where I'm stareing and I become very quiet. If my seizure is strong enough, I lose my mobility and even my speech. My speech sounds like I jut suffered a stroke. If anyone is out there let me know if anyone else has these types of seizures.

Thanks for listening and I hope I hear from someone.
