Need a Little Advice for TLE

Fri, 05/26/2006 - 12:06
Hi All, Since being diagnosed with TLE, 1yr ago after a GMal, I have had what I now know as Complex Partial seizures for the past 2-3 yrs. For a long time I just thought I was having major Déjà vu type experiences. When I had an EEG and MRI they both showed nothing unusual. My confusion is that I have been told that I have Complex Partial Seizures but from reading info I understand that you generally lose consciousness and although I cannot speak nor really understand what is being said during the episode, I can gesture and am completely aware of my surroundings. Depending on the degree, I am sometimes confused afterwards for a bit. Anyone else with similar symptoms. I am on 1000 Keppra a.m. and p.m. and still can have 1-3 per day. Some days none. The neuro has suggested I up the meds by 500mg per day to try and control. Tks, for any thoughts and best wishes, Rita

Barbie found a link that helped me with understand an ER diagnosis. I never realized there were so many types of Simple Partials until then and am still amazed. Look under 'Clinical' on the page and you may find one to fit your symptoms. http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic342.htm Hope this helps! If so, thank Barbie! Smiles! -Spiz

Everytime I go to the sites that have the category breakdowns I feel like a freak cause I fit into too many of them. Which I have been told is not possible. Long before I knew any of these categories I complained to doctors of the symptoms so I know I didn't make them up. So I know I have all the symptoms. I don't see my new epi until July 3rd. Hopefully he can tell me which category I belong in. Who knows, maybe it will be the nut house. As long as they have an internet connection I can still post though :) Does anyone else fit into several of the categories?

Hi again Rita, Yes the surgery has helped. I've been seizure free since Jan12th of this year. My surgeon said he doesn't expect I'll have more seizures since they found & removed the cause of my epilepsy. Then, I was told I'd had gangliogloma, a rare, slow-growing, benign tumor that caused my 49 years of epilepsy. It was known my E was caused by 'damage', but not until after my surgery was I told about having a tumor. Good thing I opted to have brain surgery. ~sol
