seizures from sleep deprivation, is there anyone else?

Sat, 07/29/2006 - 21:19
im 19 and got my first seizure when i was about 15...i just found out i may have to take my meds for the rest of my life after having another one about 4 weeks ago while being weaned off of the meds. I would love to hear any comments or advice from anybody who has seizures, especially those caused by sleep deprivation.

hey i'm 15 and was just diagnosed w/ epilepsy. all 4 of my seizures were sleep deprived induced too but i just started taking meds to ensure i dont have another one. its really scary and kind of a big deal so i'm looking for a friend who can empithize with all this. I'm sorry about your seizue , especially since it was just as you were trying to get off meds. i'm kind of new to this, but i'm here if you want to talk! life is bittersweet

I'm 34 now, I was diagnosed when I was 2 years old and have had seizures while awake, while at a restaurant, and while sleeping. I have had 2 grand mall, one of that put me in the ICU for a week. When I look back 99% of the time they happen in my sleep pretty much at 4:00am on the nose. The intensity varies; there are times when I am totally aware of what is going on and other times when I find myself standing in my shower. With me it's more of stress related - I have worked as a touring musician for years and dealt with very little sleep without a problem but when I am off the road and have stress in my life it's a guarantee that one is coming. I've lived my entire life taking medication - when I am sick I can't take any type of decongestant and in the summer I have to stay away from allergy medications - that's the like I've learned to live with. At times it sucks, but it's better than that week I spent in the ICU.

mine are def triggered by sleep deprivation...like if i stay up really late a few nights in a row and always wake up at say 10am (winter break for example) then stay up sorta late & get up for school at 6am, im pretty much guaranteed some myclonic jerks that morning and during school.
