Sat, 07/29/2006 - 21:19
im 19 and got my first seizure when i was about 15...i just found out i may have to take my meds for the rest of my life after having another one about 4 weeks ago while being weaned off of the meds. I would love to hear any comments or advice from anybody who has seizures, especially those caused by sleep deprivation.

im 18 and a freshman in college. I have had epilepsy for so long now. Mine are from sleep deprivation, so I def know what you are talking about. It stinks not being able to go out some nights in a college town because your afraid of having a seizure. And I can't pull all nighters to study like everyone else can. Luckily I have a roommate who has been awesome about it. Last semester I had been seizure free for the whole time and on the last freaking night before break I had one in the hall bathroom. I woke up and my roommate was sitting beside me and i had a medic in front me blood down my shirt and I didnt remember anything. the police and everyone at our dorm came. It was so so embarassing. I love college, but sometimes this whole seizure really depresses me, esp since the doctors told me I should have outgrown them by now. I just try to see it as a test and achieve more than anyone with new experiences and challenges. Good luck with your seizures though!

I can totally relate! About a year and a half ago, my seizures returned and I fell up the stairs (yes, I really fell UP the stairs!). I should have outgrown the seizures as well according to the doctors but they're back. The paramedics took a barely-conscious me to the first floor and I had to get on a stretcher in front of, it felt like, everyone in my dorm! Sooooo embarrassing!

Juanne, welcome to my world. I'm now 34 years old. I was BORN with epilepsy. As for the sleep deprivation, all I can offer is try to get as much sleep as possible. I don't know if the meds are to blame. I'm sure they don't help (sleep deprivation that is). My seizures are GENERALLY controlled. But, that's after 3600mgs of anti-convulsants. My doctor has me on both Tegretol XR, Keppra. My complex-partial seizures aren't necessarily CAUSED by sleep deprivation. However, that, at times, is a possible trigger. That, along with other stressful circumstances is what triggers mine. I hope this helps some. And, I wish you the best is getting them controlled. John C. Tillotson
