seizures from sleep deprivation, is there anyone else?

Sat, 07/29/2006 - 21:19
im 19 and got my first seizure when i was about 15...i just found out i may have to take my meds for the rest of my life after having another one about 4 weeks ago while being weaned off of the meds. I would love to hear any comments or advice from anybody who has seizures, especially those caused by sleep deprivation.

I was diagnosed when i was 16 and i am now almost 18 and i have had 2 grand mal seizures. But when i dont get enough sleep b/c of homework or papers for school, that is when i feel like i could get a seizure and i sometimes get auras b/c of im tired. i haven't really asked my doc if lack of sleep has a connection to my auras but i think it can. let me know if u get more info on it! *IRIS*

Definitely. That's the only time I have seizures. It was really a pain in college because everyonne else is out partying - on the other hand, I killed less brain cells. Alcohol is dangerous for me if I have too much because it screws with my sleep too. Niquil messes with the type of sleep I get, so that's more dangerous that a few beers. I was diagnosed at 15, have had 7 big guys and a bunch of myoclonic jerks in the morning when I pushed my luck a little too far since then, (I'm 26). I'm heading in to school to practice medicine and they are going to accommodate me next year because I simply can't cram like everyone else - can't do clinical runs until 4am either. It's a pain, but I learned my limits. Oh yeah, I have to watch out for the estrogen roller coaster around menstration time. Some people get irritable, I prefer to convulse. :) I'm just happy I have warnings and can still do most things. Good to chat! Caboose.

hi juanne i totally understand. i started having seizures when i was 7 im 19 now. but when i was sleep deprived or under a lot of stress the posibility of having a seizure was a lot more than normal. the result of these things resulted in me having a seizure two weeks ago in the middle of math class. which really sucked cause i hadnt had any for 7 years. it was controlled by medication. so i was really traumatized. my doc said it was because of lack of sleep and stress and not eating well so sleep well!!!!! i hope u r well. nas
