Sat, 07/29/2006 - 21:19
im 19 and got my first seizure when i was about 15...i just found out i may have to take my meds for the rest of my life after having another one about 4 weeks ago while being weaned off of the meds. I would love to hear any comments or advice from anybody who has seizures, especially those caused by sleep deprivation.

I'm so sorry for your experience. I dont think some folks listen to themselves.  Heck, you could name call as well IF you wanted to, Im sure.

Both my kids JME aka JANZ syndrome.  IF you only have Grand mals, like my 19 yo son, lamictal MAY work well for you.  If you have myoclonics lamictal is not a good choice.  My daughter, 16, with myoclonics, is on keppra and we are not happy with it.  The side effects outweigh the positives of the drug.  Please be good with your sleep and diet and that will help as well.

My 16 yo daughter posted a video on YouTube. She's discussing her dealing with E. Its not an academy award winner but I thought it funny, sad and I'm just glad she did it. Its called Epilepsy and me

Hi Juanne, I have had epilepsy since I was 19, and sleep deprivation is a BIG trigger for me. I have complex partial seizures, and anytime I don't get enough sleep, I know they are fast approaching. My 23 year old daughter has generalized seizures, and same thing happens to her.
