alcohol and simple-partial seizures

Tue, 01/10/2006 - 20:01
i was diagnosed two years ago with simple-partial seizures and have been on 150mg lamictal twice a day since then. the thing is, i never had anything past a simple-partial and they happened pretty infrequently, maybe 5 per year. i see many people on this board inquiring about alcohol and seizure disorders, but its seems like many of these people have grandmal seizures, not my condition. i was just wondering whether the risk of having a seizure (if you've only had simple-partials) while drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers is increased as much as it is for people that have more severe seizures than i do.

Hi Abosmia if you smoke and drink alcohol alot that can cause seizures very easily. Right know is the best time to stop drinking alchol. If you have not gotten that into it yet then know is the best time to stop. It is your choice weather you want to be really stupid and mess up you brain on purpis. I was born with epilepsy you shouldn't want to have it and bring it on your self. The best way to break from drinking alchol it to go to thearpy or go take some great advice from a person who has had to break this horiable habit that you have. I will talk to you later Abosmia. James Polaro Hey I looked on here to see whats going on with teenagers these days with epilepsy. I am not a teenager I am 31 years old. I got diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 15 years old. I have always had petit mal seizures. Never had a grand mal in my life. My doctor always told me never to drink alcohol with my medication or I could die. I didn't believe him so I continued to drink for years and became an alcoholic. I am in recovery now and haven't drank in over 1 year. But let me tell you this over the years I have had a few friends who drank with having epilepsy and they died at a very young age. Do not drink alcohol with having epilepsy. Evenif it is one seizure a year. Not a good combination if you want to llive. Well if you or anyone else wants to chat about this or anything else email me at jpolaro@mail.nysed.gov
