alcohol and simple-partial seizures

i was diagnosed two years ago with simple-partial seizures and have been on 150mg lamictal twice a day since then. the thing is, i never had anything past a simple-partial and they happened pretty infrequently, maybe 5 per year.
i see many people on this board inquiring about alcohol and seizure disorders, but its seems like many of these people have grandmal seizures, not my condition.
i was just wondering whether the risk of having a seizure (if you've only had simple-partials) while drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers is increased as much as it is for people that have more severe seizures than i do.

i think alcohol can trigger more than seizures. drug treatment center

Hi,
I have simple and complex partial seizures, and for me, yes, alcohol can be a definite trigger. Even a slight amount of alcohol can bring on a seizure for me. There is also the possibility of alcohol interfering with your seizure meds. I would definitely talk to your doctor about this, and get their thoughts.

Hi docta_j, no doubt about it, alcohol can be a sz trigger. My E started from seizures caused by alcohol withdrawl. I was downing 5-6 beers a day. As you sober up, especially while sleeping, you're much more prone to sz. I'm on 300mg lamictal a day myself. I don't drink anymore. I balance drinking a bit against a possible sz, and the beers loose. Hope this helps, one always has to decide for themself. Peace- cc
