alcohol and simple-partial seizures

Tue, 01/10/2006 - 20:01
i was diagnosed two years ago with simple-partial seizures and have been on 150mg lamictal twice a day since then. the thing is, i never had anything past a simple-partial and they happened pretty infrequently, maybe 5 per year. i see many people on this board inquiring about alcohol and seizure disorders, but its seems like many of these people have grandmal seizures, not my condition. i was just wondering whether the risk of having a seizure (if you've only had simple-partials) while drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers is increased as much as it is for people that have more severe seizures than i do.

The question is not whether alcohol will give you seizures. From what ive learned about epilepsy its the reaction with you medication that will give you a GRAND mal seizure. It not smart to mix alcohol with seizures meds. even when taking cough sirup you have to be careful. but drinking a can of beer IS VERY DANGEROUS depending on your medication. If i drink alcohol with my Keppra my doc said there is a high chance i could die bc of the med and alcohol combination. i dont drink, and dont plan to. best thing buddy is to stay away from alcohol and talk to your doc about the reactions with your medication and alcohol. : ) best of luck.

Both my wife and me are sober for more than two years now. We started in high school with small parties and ended up being addicted. It almost ruined our lives. We both have liver problems and we spend a lot on medication now. We've tried an alcohol rehab center at the beginning but in the end we've made it alone. Don't start drinking whatever the reason might be.

I know what you mean, I've spent some good years of my life drinking and going to parties. I now consider that time a wasted one, because I became alcoholic and ended up in a nice drug rehab California has, hurting my wife because I couldn't stop when I could have. Now I'm sober for 8 months and I feel full of energy again.
