Any drinking with epilepsy or with any medication is stupid; give it up.  Alcohol is a "drug" like so many other things, whether or not they come from your pharmacist.  It affects your brain, which is already not working well if you have epilepsy, so it can make things worse.

Neither should you be drinking while taking any med.  It can interact with a med, reducing its efffectiveness or causing other unexpected and dangerous effects.  Especially if you drink in large quantities  while taking several meds, it could kill you.  If your seizures are under control, just be thankful and don't do anything that could make you worse.

I have had a seizure disorder since 2009. When ever I drink alcohol I get sick. Don't know if it's because I am not much of a drinker or because alcohol affects seizure meds, so I don't drink that much. I am taking Phenytoin (generic Dilantin) 100 mg 3xaday, but I take them 2xaday. Ever since I have taken these anti seizure pills, I have had stomach problems and get nauseated and feel like I have a stomach flu. My dr. put me on an anxiety pill Hydroxyzine 25 CPS 1 cap. every 8 hrs. for anxiety or nausea and changed my sez. med. to Tegretol. The first week that pill seemed to help with the nausea and it has subsided. After taking the Tegretol for a week, I started to notice I was getting angry more often than before. I knew something was not right and me feeling anger all the time was not right, so I looked up side effects of the meds. and one rare but serious side effect was rage. So I stopped taking the Tegretol and went back to my old seizure med Phenytoin. The rage subsided and the nausea has subsided cuz the anxiety pill helps with it. Seizure meds affect people many different ways and dr.'s don't always know how they will affect someone until they give them the pills and see what happens. Hope this helps.

I have had seizures for about 6 years now. Started on Dilantin and couldnt function, switched to tegratol which made my seizures come on more frequently I have been on a total of 5 different kinds of meds to date currently on keppra and have been seizure free for 1 year 4 months. My neurologist told me drinking will not effect my seizure threshold (i have grand mal) if I don't drink often. Each person is different but this has proven true for me because I do occasionally drink and have not had any episodes. Hope this helps just don't skip doses if you plan on drinking that has caused me seizures in the past and make sure to catch up on missed sleep. Everyone experiences different triggers but mine is lack of sleep and stress. Good luck and be safe!
