Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: what does it feel like?

Sat, 06/06/2009 - 13:00

Hi Everyone!

This is my first time on this site and I am glad to have found you all!  I was "diagnosed" with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy 18mths ago following years of strange symptoms, 3 abnormal EEG's and an MRI which showed a leision in the Lt T Lobe.  I was supposed to take Lamictal but so far am too scared to.  I have different symptoms including, fear, shivering, dizziness, visual disturbances, etc.

My neurologist now thinks because my symptoms have changed i.e. shivering and some twitching of limbs occasionally, and a weird feeling that my stomach is rising into my throat and choking me ( at night) that I should have a Video EEG to clarify things.  I really don't want to take Meds until they are SURE that the diagnosis is correct because I react badly to meds.

I would be really grateful if anyone could shed any light on what TLE is like for them and also if you have had the Video EEG what it's like.

Thanks!

I was wondering, I sometimes experience deep fear that I or a member of my family or someone really close to me is going to be hurt badly, its almost as if I can see it happening, yet I know I am not seeing it, the panic grips me for only moments, is that similar to what you feel, I am just learning to recognize my seizures, I was only diagnosed recently, I always thought that it was just some strange thing that happened to me for no apparent reason, but it is very disturbing.

Neoma, I know you posted this over a year ago, but I wanted to let you know I have this phenomenon or ability too. Now I'm sure it was a symptom of undiagnosed TLE, but it always occurred on days prior to people actually getting injured. I also have the panic feeling seizures that last only 30 seconds and were very tricky and were only diagnosed after 2 grand mals that came back with clean EEGs. A 72 hour mobile EEG caught the "panic event", and it was then that I was diagnosed.

Hi,

I just joined the forum, but was diagnosed with partial seizures almost three years ago. I also have the fear type, along with tingling/weakness on my left side and sometimes the inability to speak. I have a right frontal lobe tumor that has begun spreading to the bottom of the frontal lobe.

Most recently I started experiencing strange shivering episodes with dizziness and visual blurring.Haven't had the longer EEG test to confirm if they are seizures yet, but it sounds almost identical to what you are experiencing rokchick1. Can I ask if you had any incoordination after in your arms or legs? Or if your vision was blurry or if you had visual hallucination? I had trouble speaking after and my walking and left side was clumsy. Not sure if this is typical of a TLE seizure. Thanks for reading!
