FCC Regulations on flashing graphics on television

Fri, 09/07/2007 - 13:08
I've discussed the matter with commissioner Adelstein and he thinks it would be a fine idea. Anyone have any opinions on this matter? I don't think these sorts of things only effect those of us with epilepsy. Those with Chronic Fatigue and it's variants surely are bothered by this, especially since most who have such problems usually spend hours in front of the tube or computer screen to pass time.

Sitting further away and getting a plasma tv? moving further away does not reduce the number of flickers within a 1 -3 second period. I have photosensitive epilepsy, and why should I not watch television because of attitudes like that? Epilepsy is not my only issue and I can't leave the house much at all..I'm not whining about it, that is just the way it is...it's not "poor me". If you object to others being comfortable and you don't give a toss about the number and severity of seizures that others have, that is a bit shallow sounding...The rest of us have had to put up with accomodating others..without whinging about it... It's not about regulating flashing..it is about at least reducing the number of advertisements and programs that use graphics that can cause detremental affects on people...My cousin died from a Grand Mal seizure that caused his heart to just stop..at the age of 15. It happened when he was watching a music video show..the flickering and flashing brought that seizure on. I wonder what you would miss if the flashing and flickering graphics were gone? ...All I would find gone are about 3 or 4 seizures a night...

What's shallow is saying

What's shallow is saying that I don't care about people having siezures.

No that is the way you took it..defensive... not my issue..but I accept that you feel that way. There are people who have a more difficult time with seizures than others, and to disregard their welfare because of a personal sense of indignation or disgust at their feelings or complaints as you see them, is not a good thing. Children allergic to peanuts, may do as little as inhale the smell and die of anyphylaxis. It is a matter of being accepting of others and their situations. I wouldn't have peanut butter at a table if I knew one child was allergic to peanuts, as I see it as my responsibility as a human being to ensure the safety of that child, not whine because it had an allergy to something I like. But you still didn't mention what you would miss about flashing graphics and lights? it's a reasonable question, as you jumped up and down about it.
