FCC Regulations on flashing graphics on television

Fri, 09/07/2007 - 13:08
I've discussed the matter with commissioner Adelstein and he thinks it would be a fine idea. Anyone have any opinions on this matter? I don't think these sorts of things only effect those of us with epilepsy. Those with Chronic Fatigue and it's variants surely are bothered by this, especially since most who have such problems usually spend hours in front of the tube or computer screen to pass time.

you are probably right, you are not going to make alot of people please with your opinion.  like all of us you have the right to have one.  me,  i don't mind a good debate, based on a logical point/s.  not to convince or change, but discuss.  personally the discussion of seizure disorders would benefit all of us.  if it dose not result in direct change, it can result in indirect change by eduacting people.  don't stop fighting for what you beleive in.  i would be willing to join an effort for the research to see if by the majority of people have a similar challenge.  i hope this makes sence.  my brain is getting alittle flaky.  thanks for the post.  rikk

I actually have to agree

I actually have to agree with you Karolina. Photosensitive Epilepsy is very rare. I'm not sure how you plan to regulate flashing. How do you measure it? Frequency? Contrast? What exactly is considered a flash? What degree of frequency and contrast is bothersome and to whom? How does a television editor measure the amount of flash? And how can this be done without infringing on creative freedom and first amendment rights? It can't.

You would call one out of every twenty of us rare? Please tell that to the scores of Japanese moms whos' kids had seizures after watching that Pokemon cartoon.
