Post Partum Seizures

Tue, 08/01/2006 - 15:49
After I had my first child one year ago Aug. 11th. I was doing good for about a month. And, then a month later I would start to get some seizures every once in a while. They have always been controlled by my meds. But when I do have them they are always when I wake up, all of a sudden, from a deep sleep. Or, when I didn't get enough sleep. Did anyone else have more seizures than normal after they had their baby?

My story is a little different.  I had never shown signs of seizures until my first son was born in February 2004.  2 months after his birth, I experienced the first of 4 seizures.  The only time they occurred was when I was completely stressed and exhausted.  My doctor ran tests and found out my TH levels were high, so that caused them to think I had an over active thyroid.  By the time I saw a specialist in January, my TH levels were back to normal.  I also visited a neurologist where everything came back normal.  I quit taking the medicine and never had a seizure again, until March 2006, 2 months after the birth of my second son.  My doctor immediately ordered tests again, which all came back normal.  I was on medication for my seizures for about six months, when again I quit taking them.  I have since had zero seizures.  My husband and I have figured out that the only time I have the seizures is the first 6 months after our children are born.  I want to have more children, but I am afraid that I will have to go through this again.  The only reason that worries me is when I had the first seizure after my second son, I was breast feeding him and dropped him.  The weirdest part about my seizures were, they only happened when I would doze off from being so tired.  I've never gone into a seizure in a waking state.  I keep trying to find the cause of this, but there is nothing I can find anywhere.  If anyone can point me in the direction of an answer I would really appreciate it.

Hi ladies,My daughter is 5 and my son is 2.  I started experiencing nocturnal seizures during pregnancy and again after my son was born.  They stopped after having my daughter but continued when I became pregnant with my son and never stopped after he was born.  I have never had seizures before and there is no family history of them.   I suspect hormones play a role as well as stress and lack of sleep.  Have any of you found any answers from tests or drs?   What medications are you on?  Keppra, trileptal? Thanks for your help.  Amanda
