Epilepsy and Memory Loss

Sun, 10/08/2006 - 19:36
I'm brand new to this forum. Looking it over, I don't see my major problem & don't have much info about it. I have lost alot of my memory & it supposedly is because of seizures. I have been on Neurontin since I had some blackouts, which I guess are called Absence Seizures. I just blank out & my eyes get glassy. I want to know if the memory loss & "feeling weird" are the result of having Epilepsy, or could they be from meds? I also take Effexor XR for depression. I tried to go off that when I thought maybe I'd been mistakenly diagosed with depression before they realized I have Epilepsy. That resulted in some very bad mental & emotional health problems. I'm taking both now, & the memory loss & (sometimes)weird feelings persist. Anyone out there know anything about these issues?

Hi Ivy: I'm in my 50's too and have a tiny toy poodle that is my special little girl. My husband & I both adore her and she is such a comfort... like you said, they don't care about your memory! My friends know my memory problem and help me alot. I always say, "I get to do it (see it, go there, etc.) AGAIN for the lST time!" About supplements, I mentioned Zija, which I can help you get if you're interested. It's a great overall healthy drink in a 5.5 oz. can you drink everyday, tastes good too. Made from the Moringa tree. I also take B-6 which is good for the brain and memory. And Omega 3 in fish oil. I take Carlson's Cod Liver Oil, 1 teaspoon am and pm (tastes good too.) Found in health food stores or health food section of grocery store, refrigerated. A doctor on this site said his daughter stopped having seizures when he started giving her fish oil for the Omega 3. I have a friend who makes a special protein drink with the correct proportions of protein, carbs and fat that she feels would really help replace what our body is needing that makes it seizure. She has just written a book that is out now called "Going against the Grain". "It's about a journey to find the causes of degenerative disease as perceived not through the eyes of mainstream medicine, but rather through the eyes of the core issues that promote disease. The result has been to understand that our negative thoughts, perceptions and beliefs are the core cause of disease and open the door to disease in the physical body. Accepting how our immune system works has led to an understanding of the nutrients needed to empower it's ability to sustain our body while we work to release and heal the core cause of disease." Basically helping people realize there are great things we can do to promote healthy bodies w/o drugs. Blessings to you and keep in touch! Terri N.

Hello Everyone, I just found this site and just joined this forum. I read the comments on this thread from you all regarding the frustrations of memory loss. It certainly is challenging. I am an artist, and it is horrible at art show openings at galleries when people come to see my work and I cannot remember their names or even sometimes who they are! One time I couldn't even remember my Mother's name! Yesterday I invited 6 prominent ladies from our community to my loft for tea. Just as they arrived I experienced a petit mal (that's what I have been calling them) and could not speak, heard the sounds of birds chirping in my ears, and was unable to do much except pour tea for awhile! Today I am wazzed out. This gets to be such a tough road sometimes, doesn't it? Not being able to remember names of places, things, people......unable to tell others about travels to places I can no longer remember the names of! I can describe images though! So do you think the memory loss is due to the epilepsy or the drugs that "prevent" it?? "Be kind to all that lives"

Jonzen: Welcome to this forum! There are alot of friendly helpful caring people here. Yes, the memory problem is not fun. I have found solace, tho, in realizing I'm not alone. I love nametags! I'm sure your ladies enjoyed the gathering and would totally understand if you shared your need for "gentle reminders" of names. Creative people like yourself should especially be forgiven for having their minds full of other things! I enjoy taking pictures and dating them and labeling any info needed to remember special events. I'm still trying to figure out where my memory loss comes from. My "coach"...a good friend I confide in that also is into health, feels that this is my body's way of dealing with, or avoiding, stress and negative situations. Just like my Dad drank to forget, so I too have a way to shut off negative things in my life. Just a thought, you might consider. Try not worrying about your memory. Turn it over to God and keep a positive, thankful attitude about the many blessings you do have. Give up the worry and let your mind and body enjoy the good things in your life. Blessings, Terri N.
