Unusual complex/simple partial seizures

Mon, 03/27/2006 - 23:57
So, I've been having seizures. I don't have convulsions, but I slow down to the point where I freeze up and can't move or speak for 2-10 minutes at a time. I've had this happen 15 times in the last 7 weeks. I'm conscious and can stay sitting up. My eyes can move, but I can't move a muscle in the rest of my body. I will also often start nodding my head and biting the air. I don't try to, it just sort of happens. I've just seen a Neurologist. First, he thought they were panic attacks, but then he said they're probably Complex Partial Seizures. From what I've read, that doesn't make sense because I don't lose consciousness and it can last a lot longer than 2 minutes. I am hoping that someone on this forum will have some experience/insight/advice for me.

Is this post too old to respond to? When I saw the panic attacks you dragged me in. I am new to this and don't want my story to panic, hahaha, you. I developed a panic disorder in late 1999. I did not know this, and it was a self diagnosis, until early 2002. But while out on a run in Aug. 2003 I had a grand mal seizure. No one knew why I lost conscienceness, until my MRI showed a brain tumor on my right temporal lobe. I of course don't know if this is your case and again don't want to scare you, but when I see panic attacks I can't help but think this. My tumor was causing the panic attacks. The right temporal lobe is notorious for the sense of unprovoked fear. Further I think there is a fine line b/t simple & complex partial seizures. I now get these due to the scare on my brain or whatever is causing them. Just had a massive on yesterday: deja vu times one million, frightening. That lead me to this website.

David, I know your feeling of Deja-vu times one million! It is the strangest thing. Now that I'm aware that it's a simple partial, I will let anyone I'm with know what I'm experiencing, and once I do this, it seems to go away rather quickly. I don't think I've ever had one last for a full minute, but it's come close. Aside from these S/P, I have T/C during my sleep. I've only had one when I was conscious, and that was back when seizures started happening to me. My E was caused by a brain injury from a bicycling accident. I had the accident in 1993, and in 1995 the seizures started happening. Panic attacks aren't always related to epilepsy, they correspond to pre-menopause, and some people with chemical imbalances have this disorder. I hope this site helps you! It has surely helped me out! Good luck!
