Unusual complex/simple partial seizures

Mon, 03/27/2006 - 23:57
So, I've been having seizures. I don't have convulsions, but I slow down to the point where I freeze up and can't move or speak for 2-10 minutes at a time. I've had this happen 15 times in the last 7 weeks. I'm conscious and can stay sitting up. My eyes can move, but I can't move a muscle in the rest of my body. I will also often start nodding my head and biting the air. I don't try to, it just sort of happens. I've just seen a Neurologist. First, he thought they were panic attacks, but then he said they're probably Complex Partial Seizures. From what I've read, that doesn't make sense because I don't lose consciousness and it can last a lot longer than 2 minutes. I am hoping that someone on this forum will have some experience/insight/advice for me.

OK, I'am still very confused about this whole epilepsy ordeal! I have read so many stories and can not believe how many different types of seizures there are, I can not fathom the idea. And am so confused!!! I was at the hospital Fri the 24'th and was talking to a woman whose husband was there, He was in an induced coma,he has had seizures for 39 years and all of a sudden can not stop,as soon as they try to bring him out he starts to have seizures. She was telling me about all the different types. Of course i told her my story and she said i am to young and need to find out what is wrong and or find another doctor. Aug,04. my blood sugar bottomed out, the E.M.T.'s could not get it to register, I was in and out of it, so bad as a matter of fact i was taken by ambulance to e.r. fed and sent home. I hit my head so hard it left a bald spot. From there things took off, I really do not know if i have epilepsy or hit my head so many times that i now have seizures. Between Aug and Dec,04. there were several events, Dec,24. I was at a second job,was waiting on one last customer so i could close get home and prepare for xmass. The next thing i know was waking up at the hospital, kept over night and sent home, family was told i may have had a heart attack, then why was i sent home, very unaware of my surroundings, hit the same spot on my head , which left a three inch bald spot. This continued til July,05. On 7-1-05 i was trying to get into the shower, my daughter heard a loud thump and started screaming, she knew what happened, she broke in to get me. I was told i refused the ambulance, I do not remember seeing or hearing anybody but i could hear myself yelling i promise. I was admitted on 7-1 and released on 7-3. All i can remember was seeing the front of the hospital, waking up to see a cage being slammed over my head, waking up at a diner tray and waking up in a shower being burned by hot water and the lights were off. Any way, i came home and slept for weeks and weeks, Every part of my body hurt, my forearms looked like a battle zone, i had a black eye, the bruises on my back and shoulder were unreal, with scratches,I looked as though a wild animal got ahold of me! There was blood with a strange brown colored fliud draining from my nose, my ears hurt from sticking my fingers in them, they were so moist. The list goes on and on. And i now have serious rounds of vertigo, the last one lasted 30 min's. I lost vision in the upper right half of my left eye, the room was spinning and spinning, i started sweating ,my head only, my speech was slured, heart was raceing, my whole body was very hot. My son took me to a hospital in a nearby town and it was there i found out the hospital i was in (doctor) released me in a vegitative condition, with a hematoma and an indented skull fracture. The pain is debilitating, yesterday i slept 17 hours, my eyes swell so bad the area at the eyebrows buldges over my eyelids, i believe a clear thick fluid is still draining from my eyes espesially while i lay down for long periods of time. There is also a part of my skull on the left side that curves and that seperates and a buldging soft spot can be felt, the slighest pressure causes extreem pain. I currently am seeing a neuro, whom i believe does not give a damn, will not tell me any thing, has all records and will not coment when i ask questions, I get these looks, that make me feel like you've got to be kidding or lady you're CRAZY! A lady at the hospital that i was admitted to told that it was a close call! I still do not know what she was talking about, the nuero has those records and will not tell me any thing about it! I have heard so many horror stories about epilepsy and the way people are treated after being what i call labeled epileptic, It is heart breaking as to how alot of people are treated! I'am so sorry i got off the subject i was responding to, I did not mean to do this. Maybe that is why i do not get a response to any thing. By the way i take 700 mg. phenytoin daily and have no problems with that what so ever. I would love to hear from any body , Is there any body who has or is going threw any thing like this,PLEASE TALK TO ME !!! One more thing, I see a new doctor who is going to do her best to help me sort this mess out for legal purposes. Take care and God Bless All!!!!

Hi Conch, Owwwww! Reading your post made my head hurt!!! I'm so sorry you were injured so bad and treated so horribly. There isn't any excuse for how some medical personnel treat and/or react to any patients, but although I've come across my share of these unprofessional professionals...they aren't the norm. The bad ones have put feelings of distrust in me that the good ones have had to work around alot with me, but there are many good doctors out there. It's finding them. Just remember that the doctor you choose is exactly that...your choice. You don't have to settle, so don't. Search until you find one that listens to you, is a go-getter on helping you with your seizures and control of them and you are comfortable with. You matter...and you should feel they think so too. Keep a journal on your seizures. Write down what you can remember of each one, if you can remember. Train those in your household that witness any to try to notice what details they can and have them write them down. Write down any triggers that could have offset the seizure such as being tired, not sleeping well, hungry, being in a hurry, change in weather...anything. This will be helpful to the Neurologist or epileptologist you see. I'm sorry for what you have been through. You take care, be safe and God Bless! -Spiz
