Unusual complex/simple partial seizures

Mon, 03/27/2006 - 23:57
So, I've been having seizures. I don't have convulsions, but I slow down to the point where I freeze up and can't move or speak for 2-10 minutes at a time. I've had this happen 15 times in the last 7 weeks. I'm conscious and can stay sitting up. My eyes can move, but I can't move a muscle in the rest of my body. I will also often start nodding my head and biting the air. I don't try to, it just sort of happens. I've just seen a Neurologist. First, he thought they were panic attacks, but then he said they're probably Complex Partial Seizures. From what I've read, that doesn't make sense because I don't lose consciousness and it can last a lot longer than 2 minutes. I am hoping that someone on this forum will have some experience/insight/advice for me.

I also have Complex/partial seizues (had 1 Grand Mal) and the neuro told me that if my awareness is impacted (can't speak and don't understand words and confused in varied degrees then it is indeed CP I thought I was having the Simple/partial. I also am fairly new to this (8mos) and after reading the replies have decided that I also should find an epileptologist for myself. I am on meds but still have anywhere from 1-3 siezures daily. Some days none. They are not dibilitating but still make be uncomfortable and embarassed. Hope you get the info you need, best of luck Rita

Hi Rita The description the neuro gave you is a crock (the problem is neuros treat all brain and spine problems). You completely lose awareness of a compex partial. Unless you 'discover' yourself to be in a different room or unless someone tells you, you have no idea. Yet, people's awareness 'can' be impacted by simple partials ... http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html I had signs I was losing control after 10 years on my meds when I had episodes I didn't recognize as seizures as they were different than I'd ever had before. I had 2 odd epideodes, both extremely short, when for a moment I had no idea where I was. They were simple partials as I didn't lose awareness of the fact that I was sitting in a room - I just didn't recognize where the room was. I was having "jamais vu" (= never seen) seizures Your idea to see an epileptologist is likely one of the best things you can do. Wish you luck ~sol
